bury those wonderful, special
drawings in a shoebox. Bring them
out into the world and give them life!
I
bring a child's drawing to life by creating
a bas-relief or free-standing metal sculpture
that retains the
original playfulness and joy of the child's
vision and gives it permanence. When I see a
special drawing that stirs my imagination, I
feel invited to participate as an artist.
Rendering
the drawing in metal adds drama, power,
and presence. Metal cut into the simple
and familiar shapes of the child's drawing
can be given various textures and colors.
I see this work as a collaboration between
myself, the original artist, and the person
commissioning the sculpture. My goal is
to re-create a work that retains the
essential feeling, flavor, and quality of
the original.
